Humming Bird Food
Horses are the love of my life. They are loyal, sweet, and gracious companions who do more for the human spirit than any other being I have ever encountered. I love all animals though. Here at the ranch we have a lot of flora and fauna around. As spring is here, the birds are chirping away and one of my most favorite birds to watch are the hummingbirds. I enjoy watching them flit through the air, their little wings going a hundred miles an hour. They come in a variety of colors that light up the sky for me. Since there are so many around, I decided this year to hang feeders and make up some nectar for them. I found this easy recipe on The Smithsonian national Park site.
Directions for making safe hummingbird food:
- Mix 1 part sugar with 4 parts water and bring to a boil to kill any bacteria or mold present.
- Cool and fill feeder.
- Extra sugar water may be stored in a refrigerator.
- Red dye should not be added.
